Moto Direct is seeking applicants for Moto Academy, a new free technical training programme running for a year. It is aimed at apprentices, workshop technicians and parts specialists who are customers of the company, with the course focused on the components and consumables used in everyday motorcycle maintenance.

The programme is scheduled to start on February 3, with 10 successful applicants set to take part. Each participant will spend roughly one day a month on the course, either at Moto Direct’s headquarters in Derbyshire or at individual manufacturers’ training centres around the UK. The monthly format is intended to keep the academy compatible with normal work, and Moto Direct says it will help with accommodation costs when an overnight stay is needed.

Product knowledge rather than sales instruction

Lessons will cover Michelin tyres, EK Chains products and Motul lubricants, together with the technical applications behind them. Brembo is expected to address brake-pad compounds and T-drive discs. EK Chains, meanwhile, is expected to explain the purpose of O-rings in chain construction, how they differ from X-rings and what that distinction changes in practice.

Lloyd Day, Moto Direct’s Regional Director for parts and accessories and the academy’s creator, says the aim is to help industry professionals identify the correct component for a particular motorcycle and explain the technical reasoning to the customer. He describes the course as strictly technical training rather than sales education.

The selected trainees will also receive a free starter toolkit, Motul workshop clothing and exclusive discounts on products supplied by Moto Direct. Day hopes the initial group will become the foundation for a much broader scheme, but that expansion remains a future ambition rather than an announced commitment.
