Honda has confirmed its intention to move into the electric mountain-bike market with the e-MTB Prototype, unveiled at Sea Otter Europe 2026 in Girona, Spain. The machine is an electrically assisted mountain bike developed around the ‘New Terrain, Same Dream’ concept. It extends Honda’s electric activity beyond motorcycles and marks the company’s first move into this segment.

The prototype was presented as part of a broader collection of Honda electric projects. The display also included the RN01 prototype downhill mountain bike, the CR Proto electric motocross bike and the RTL Electric competition Trial bike. The e-MTB follows the WN7, Honda’s first full-size electric motorcycle. Honda’s EV Outlier Concept was also shown, but it remains a concept and has not been confirmed as a production model.

Toni Bou has already tested the e-MTB Prototype. The trial rider has won 40 world trials titles across indoor and outdoor disciplines. Honda has not yet given the bike a production name or announced its price, availability or market rollout. Those details remain open while the project is presented in prototype form.

Albert Erlacher, Head of Motorcycles HME-DE and the e-MTB project lead, described Sea Otter Europe as a platform for Honda to present its vision of electric mountain biking. The announcement therefore establishes Honda’s direction and shows the prototype itself, but stops short of confirming its final commercial specification or launch plan.
